How RelyOn Housekeeping transformed an existing iOS and Android application with subscription, security and structural issues into a more compliant, secure and commercially scalable housekeeping management platform.
The Challenge
RelyOn Housekeeping is a mobile operations platform designed for hotels, serviced apartments, short-term rental operators, cleaning companies and multi-property teams.
The application helps managers coordinate housekeeping activity through features such as task creation and assignment, custom cleaning checklists, staff scheduling, real-time task updates, cleaner clock-in and clock-out, GPS-based verification, photo and video evidence, supervisor approvals, performance reporting, and multi-property management.
The core product had already been developed before TwoSquares became involved. However, several significant issues were preventing it from operating as a reliable and commercially scalable software product.
The existing subscription implementation did not correctly follow the purchase requirements imposed by Apple and Google. This created risks involving App Store and Google Play compliance, subscription activation, purchase validation, free-trial handling, renewal status, cancelled subscriptions, restored purchases, access across devices, and entitlement consistency.
The application also required a broader security review. Because RelyOn Housekeeping supports multiple businesses, properties, managers, supervisors and housekeeping teams, every account must only be able to access the information belonging to its own organisation.
Weaknesses in tenant relationships or data-access rules could potentially allow users to access another organisation’s information, staff to view properties outside their assigned business, roles to perform actions beyond their intended permissions, subscription access to be trusted without proper verification, or records to become incorrectly associated with another tenant.
Several smaller interface, navigation and stability issues also affected the user experience.
The project therefore required more than a collection of isolated bug fixes.
RelyOn Housekeeping needed compliant mobile subscription handling, reliable purchase restoration, stronger authentication and authorisation, proper tenant isolation, clearer account relationships, revised subscription plans, a more sustainable pricing model, improved onboarding, clearer market positioning, and a structured route to commercial growth.
The Solution
We undertook a full product remediation and commercial-readiness programme covering the mobile applications, subscription infrastructure, security model, SaaS architecture, pricing and go-to-market direction.
1. Mobile Subscription Compliance Review
We began by reviewing the existing subscription journey across both iOS and Android.
The previous implementation required restructuring so that purchases made inside the mobile applications were handled through the appropriate platform billing systems.
2. Apple In-App Purchase Integration
The iOS subscription flow was rebuilt around Apple’s in-app purchase requirements.
This included configuring subscription products, plan identifiers, subscription groups, free-trial eligibility, purchase confirmation, active entitlement checks, cancellation and expiration handling.
3. Google Play Billing Integration
The Android application required the same structured approach through Google Play Billing.
We reviewed and corrected the Android subscription implementation to account for Google Play subscription products, purchase tokens, entitlement validation, trial periods, renewals, cancellations, and account restoration.
4. Restore Purchases
We implemented and improved restore-purchase functionality so users can request that the application checks their App Store or Google Play purchase history and restores the corresponding entitlement.
5. Subscription Entitlement Management
We restructured the subscription model around entitlement status rather than relying solely on a local payment flag.
The product can now account for states such as trial, active, grace period, billing issue, cancelled but active, expired, refunded, and restored.
6. Pricing and Product Packaging
The pricing model was reorganised into clearer subscription tiers, allowing smaller operators to enter at an accessible level while providing larger organisations with plans suited to additional properties and staff members.
7. Free Trial Structure
The free-trial experience was reviewed alongside the subscription implementation to provide a clearer transition between trial access and a paid subscription while keeping the experience aligned with Apple and Google rules.
8. Security Review and Remediation
Security rules were moved toward a server-enforced model where access is evaluated against the authenticated user, their organisation, role and permitted properties.
9. Multi-Tenant Architecture
We reviewed and improved the relationships between tenants, organisations, properties, managers, supervisors, housekeepers, tasks, checklists, reports, and subscription plans.
10. Tenant Isolation
Access controls were reviewed so that each request must be evaluated against the authenticated user, the user’s organisation, the selected tenant, the user’s role, and the specific resource being requested.
11. Role-Based Access Control
We refined the role model around operational responsibilities such as manager, supervisor, housekeeper, and administrative access.
12. Invitation and Team Onboarding Improvements
We reviewed and improved the invitation process to ensure invitations attach to the correct business, role, and property access.
13. Task and Property Relationships
Task-management data was structured to strictly follow tenant boundaries.
14. Subscription and Tenant Alignment
We improved the relationship between store purchase, user account, tenant, subscription plan, property allowances, staff allowances, and entitlement status.
15. User Interface Corrections
We addressed onboarding navigation, subscription-screen clarity, back navigation, button behaviour, form validation, status messaging, loading states, error handling, role invitations, and task interactions.
16. Performance and Stability Improvements
We reviewed and improved application requests, loading behaviour, error recovery, state handling, and data fetching.
17. Operational Feature Review
We reviewed the complete journey from task creation through to verified completion.
18. Supervisor Quality-Control Workflow
The introduction of a dedicated supervisor role gave RelyOn Housekeeping a stronger operational quality-control layer.
19. Go-to-Market Strategy
We developed a go-to-market plan designed around the operational problems RelyOn Housekeeping solves for independent hotels, serviced apartments, short-term rental managers, and cleaning companies.
20. Commercial Positioning
The platform was repositioned as an operational management system rather than a consumer cleaning-booking application.
21. Website and Product Messaging Review
The product messaging was reorganised around who the platform is for, what operational problems it solves, how managers, supervisors and housekeepers use it, which features belong to each plan, and what happens during the free trial.
22. App Store and Google Play Release Management
The project included coordinating compliant subscription configuration, testing environments, app builds, purchase validation, store metadata, privacy information, and release management.
The Results
The project moved RelyOn Housekeeping from an existing application with significant subscription, security and product-structure risks toward a more compliant and commercially viable SaaS platform.
