A single-page session with no interaction. High bounce rates can signal poor UX, irrelevant content, or slow loading times.

Bounce: interpreting single-page sessions

A bounce typically means a user viewed one page and then left without triggering another tracked interaction. Bounces aren’t automatically “bad”: some pages answer the question quickly (glossary entries, contact details), while others should guide a user deeper (service pages, product pages).

When a bounce is a problem

  • The page is meant to drive a next step (enquiry, booking, signup).
  • Traffic is high-intent but users abandon quickly.
  • Users can’t find key info (pricing, location, availability, policies).

How to reduce harmful bounces

  • Improve above-the-fold clarity and strengthen the primary CTA.
  • Speed up the page, especially on mobile.
  • Add internal links and “next best step” modules for common intents.
